Eyecare Awards winners at Eyecare Glasgow
The latest edition of the Eyecare Glasgow Conference was held from January 21-22 at the Hilton Hotel Glasgow. Over 200 guests attended the two-day event, which featured a packed schedule of CPD with five independent CPD tracks taking place on the first day and three on the second.
Each themed track featured a minimum of 12 interactive CPD points with peer review options available on both days for optometrists, dispensing opticians, contact lens opticians and independent prescribers.
CPD was also available in the exhibition hall with event sponsors Vision Scotland running a foreign body removal skills workshop on its stand and a series of points available from visual recognition quizzes and online distance learning modules.
Co-organiser and director of Eyecare Education, Hiten Gorecha said: ‘We want to make sure people get value for money at the conference by providing more education and ensuring it covers a broad range of topics to suit all specialities and interests.’ Alongside the conference there was also a dedicated student session run by the Brain Tumour Charity and Out of the Box Optics.
Students donated to the charity and got to take part in a series of skills workshops in the exhibition hall, which included getting hands-on experience with a vast array of equipment as well as speaking to industry experts. The students then went on to take part in an OSCE masterclass followed by a Q&A with an expert panel from all corners of the industry.
Co-organiser and founder of Eyecare Education, Stuart Wellings said: ‘We really want to engage with students as they are the future of the industry as well as future Eyecare attendees and it was great to see how passionate they were to learn and interact.’
The event also saw the inaugural Eyecare Awards, which were attended by over 170 people and featured 10 categories. ‘We had a great night with a fabulous three course meal and danced the night away to a fabulous band,’ said Grant Cardwell, co-founder of sponsor Xeyex. Eyecare Glasgow 2025 will be held at the Hilton Hotel Glasgow on January 19-20, 2025.
